| Oh the horror... |
The most embarrassing thing happened to me on Friday. Super. Embarrassing.
I went to the restroom during my break at work and I forgot I had my iPod in my pocket after coming back from lunch. I didn't realize that it was slipping out, and as I was leaving the stall it fell out...into the toilet.
...yes. I had already flushed.
You know these kind of things happen when it's a drunken moment and your cell phone falls out of your pocket as you're getting up...but I was at work, sober, and paying attention - well obviously not. The worst was how the brain took a few seconds to realize exactly what happened. As I watched it fall, it didn't hit me until I saw the bubble coming up. After drying it, it still plays, but was turning on by itself. I just let it dry over the weekend and I'm going to give it a shot. I just hope it doesn't die before my trip to NYC...the last trip I forgot it and had to survive on two cds and constant switching on the radio. |

| Missing: Dress... |
....you like??
Now how the hell can I buy the shoes first but no dress!?! I have spent the last few weeks looking around for a dress that can last for the year, but it seems like things are so limited this season. It's all the same look: the baby doll dress. For someone who's obviously not a size 2 - babydoll:9 months pregnant. This isn't 1996 when I was in high school and everyone wore these like the plague.
I have two days. TWO. DAYS. After going to different malls, TjMaxx's, Marshalls's, you name it, I'm tired! Tomorrow is pretty much my last resort to go to the Williamsburg outlets with my roommate. I am CROSSING MY FINGERS, TOES, you name it that I find something. Or else I'll be going to the wedding this Saturday like my mom said: "wearing a pants and a really nice top".
...again, does she think I'm 60!? |

| Concerts and Weddings are bad for your pockets... |
Oh. My. God.
I thought that perhaps this year would be laid back with no weddings, no major events... TOTALLY.WRONG.
It all started with a free show at the Norva - I went to see Jason Mraz with a few friends; got a close spot. I'm happy. That was it...Now that I can't really get most concert tickets for free anymore, I have to resort to paying for my ticket along with those hefty rape fees from Ticketmaster. So far here's my calendar for shows:
Already saw: April: Feist - Charlottesville, VA (great show, got up to the front row, walked in the pouring rain, long drive back to the hotel) May: Lupe Fiasco, N.E.R.D., Rihanna, and Kayne West (Had WONDERFUL seats...of course they were, I paid quite a bit for those tickets...something I never did before) June: Billy Joel, Modest Mouse July: 311 and Snoop Dogg August: Dave Matthews...I will not miss this show. Last year people were comforting me like it was a funeral since I missed it.
At least one concert a month. And probably in the next month or so there will be more announcements for shows to come - good God I hope they're bands I don't like.
And then of course weddings. I love going to weddings...I am just not a fan when there's more than one in a year. This year was the biggest one yet. I was invited to 6 weddings. Aaaaand I can only attend to 5. Seriously two weddings are on the same day and I had to make a choice to go to one. The first one starts this Saturday in Virginia Beach, 11:30 and open bar...following shortly after is one of the other bride's bachelorett party. Probably after all the trouble I am going through with looking for that ONE DRESS to wear to FIVE WEDDINGS I'm sure that I'm going to have a rough Saturday.
I'm still waiting for that Stimulus check...to pay off all the chaos coming ahead! |

| Lost...now found |
WONDERFUL NEWS...
I should have updated a while back. But last Sunday, my aunt was found. Apparently when she went on her walk, she went too far and got lost. The unfortunate part was that for three days, she was out on the street. No food, or water...on top of her illness, she also has diabetes so her blood sugar level was extremely low. When she was sent to the hospital by the EMT her body temperature was 88 degrees. As of this week, she is still in rehab because they want to make sure that she is ok to be out again.
That weekend was probably the worst weekend to experience. I have only seen one family tragedy where my cousin (her son) was involved in a fatal accident when I was in college. I had to go to the hospital with her and see him, and say my goodbyes. I just couldn't imagine doing it again and in a totally different and scary circumstance.
Our prayers were answered, and we're so happy that she is alive and well. Also, I want to thank the support from my friends in NY who were willing to take time out of their schedule to try to help.
Very big thanks to all. |

| My Aunt is missing... |
I honestly cannot believe that I'm posting this.
I got a call late last night from my uncle that my Aunt Jonelle (yes...same name. When I was living with her while in college man it was crazy to hear people call us) is missing.
Family fact: Alzheimer's, dementia, diabetes...all in my mom's side of the family. My other uncle died from Alzheimer's four years ago at an early age of 68. My Aunt Jonelle is older, in her 70's so this obviously hit her later. I haven't talked to my family in quite a while, and when she came down to VA last summer I knew obviously something was wrong. She did recognize me but whenever I asked her questions, she would not really respond to what I was asking.
So to forward to yesterday, I was told that she likes to take her walks around the block. But she took her walk and never came back. So no one knows if she took a bus somewhere and is now lost or she is just walking around the city...Brooklyn. New York City. Out of all places. God...the thought of that. I'm lost for words. I'm in so much shock I am just hoping that she snaps back into it and realizes that she needs to get help. And the worst of it is that really we can't do anything down here but hope and pray.
I do love her very much and I hope she comes home. Please. |

| Will I ever keep up with this?!? |
Hello. Happy New Year. Happy Birthday to me...(I'm finally 30...yes) Congrats on my roommate Liz for a very successful kidney transplant.
...etc, etc.
Have I forgotten to write in this blog? Yes and no. Do I not want to write anymore?? I don't know. But let's see if I can give a summary of some highlights that happened in the last 8 months...at least to start something off this year.
Oct: We had our annual Halloween party at our friends' place. This time Christian and I dressed up as an amazing duo...Miami Vice - pretty hot, huh? Nice "attempt" to look like a man.
Nov: Christian and I decided on a whim to go to Myrtle Beach. Anytime I went south I never stopped in South Carolina. It was always the straight drive through to go to Florida, wherever. So I wanted to hear what was so fabulous about this place, and of course to have some time to ourselves. With my fabulous discounts through work (ah, lovely perks) we ended up with a hotel that had a room with a view. Top floor, suite, pool(s). A place that would probably be over $150 a night...I got that sucka for $50. Anyway, we were the typical tourists and went to Crocodile Rocks (funny the guy who was working in Norfolk when they were open is now working down there), a few outlets (woo hoo!) and Ripley's Aquarium, something I had not done since elementary school. A last weekend trip that was definitely worth it.
Dec: Ah...the holidays. We decided to throw a holiday party at our house and of course it was themed (when do we NOT have a theme!), wear your ugliest Christmas sweater. We didn't have a party with the girls here yet, so it was a good idea to throw for the holiday season. Party turned out great until a guest decided to invite half of the bar guests from Greenies (a shady Ocean View bar if you know about it) and the first thing they thought was free booze! After kicking them out the party turned sour and everyone decided to leave all at once. Christmas itself was great...to get a duffel bag with a picture of a master blaster boom box - how sweet is that?! Best gift ever.
Jan: The "day of doom" came. I turned the big 30. We had a party at The New Belmont to celebrate and I actually had a number of people show up. I even had some surprise visits from friends I hadn't seen in years. Christian made a promise about a year ago that he was going to make me cry - I'm thinking it's a gift of torture, something embarrassing. Wrapped in a box full with my favorite gum (Orbitz Mint Mojito) was a book. It was a book with pictures of my 30 years. The first page had the original email he sent out to all my friends saying to submit all of their pictures and memorabilia to say happy birthday. My mom also got involved with adding pictures when I was a baby, my family from New York, and even pictures of grandparents that I never had the chance to meet. Friends from all over the states sent him pictures (California, Florida...even friends who were vacationing around the world), and some were candid, some were sentimental. WATER WORKS. I cried so hard, after many drinks and going home, I was still crying. I would have never expected something like that and I appreciated something like that from my boyfriend, family and friends.
Feb-Mar-Apr: Nothing too exciting with the good old occasional get together. But the biggest moment was for my roommate Liz to get a kidney transplant with her father being the donor. It was a successful procedure, and unfortunately she was at her parents' place for the recovery, so we haven't seen her around the house for over 6 weeks. Tonight is the first night that she's staying over and we're watching our Thursday night shows. Up and coming the next four months; 5 weddings. 5 concerts. And moving into a new house.
**Oh! And one thing I forgot to mention. The t-shirt that I mysteriously received in the mail from a stranger that I previously posted...I found out who it came from. In that birthday book, the very last picture had my friends Eric, Vedette and their son Henry wearing personalized shirts. Each person said Happy.Birthday.Janel. Vedette wore the shirt. My stalker revealed** |
